Time flys when you’re makin’ music with friends…

Hola Folks!

Here I am, morning coffee in hand watching Canada AM and contemplating first thing Monday morning how time is flying so fast that I can’t keep up nor do I have time to sufficiently soak up the joy from every amazing experience I’ve had lately! This…is not something you want to think about Monday morning! Believe me! lol….(siggggghhhh)…

Since Newfoundland, I’ve been chillin’ out, writing, making album plans, recording, and planning the tour out West with Carmel. This music thing is always being able to plan for at least 3 months ahead of now, which means sometimes you get so focused on the months ahead that you forget about the “now”. And then when you take a vacation, like I did this weekend, and forget about the months ahead, Sunday rolls around and smokes you like a brick in the face and you feel behind!! I’m sure a lot of people feel this same way. Now what we need is a solution lol…a multitasking mind that can enjoy every inch of the “now” yet plan months ahead at the same time!! …Next time maybe lol!

This past weekend my Mom and Auntie came to visit me and we hit up the Cabot Trail! What a beautiful weekend. I’ve done the Cabot Trial four times this year and it was still super beautiful, especially with a great soundtrack to listen to! Traveling music is key and so is letting my Mom and Auntie in on the East Coast artists so they can bring these artists back to Saskatchewan and Alberta and say hey! Check this out! We had a little Old Man Luedecke playin’, of course, a little Rose Cousins, a little Norma MacDonald, Joel Plaskett, David Myles, Ian Sherwood, Amelia Curran, Christina Martin, my partner in crime and touring, Carmel Mikol, and the new Atlantic Voices collection blaring the whole trip. We even showed them some history with Stan Rogers Home in Halifax live album. Sunday we hit up Louisbourg, since I’ve still never been, in the pouring rain with ponchos and flip flops…way to go Kim…I thought this one through real hard! What made me even more mad was that my runners were in the car! Anyways…despite the rain, wind, puddles, and rocks between my toes that sliced my feet every time I walked, it is something to see! Very cool…the fog, mist, rain factor may have just added to the feel.

Last night I also got my new t-shirts in! They are awesome! Seriously…I said I would never wear my own t-shirt but I might go back on that. There are women’s and men’s and they are the most comfortable t-shirt you’ll ever put on! If you want one, then email me!

Today, I’m going to take my mom and Auntie out to Peggy’s Cove and hopefully it stops rainin’! They go home tomorrow so today is my last day with them It’s hard to be away from them but it was wicked they came to visit and I got to spend a week with them!! Now they understand why I’m in love with the East Coast so they’ll come visit more now for sure!

Alright people! Keep your eyes out for gigs…they are far and few this summer due to recording. People out West! Be prepared when me and Carmel roll through ’cause we’re gonna blow your minds! We are super excited to see you and I’m excited to see those mountains and prairie fields again!!! Can’t wait to see you…

Morning Beautiful! (…and the Guess Who’s Driving Tour)

Well hello there folks!

I am just finishing up my morning coffee after watching Canada AM and eating my usual peanut butter toast (yes, I have routine lol…I am such a morning routine person). Anyway…found out that Canadian pork is safe. Turns out even if the pig is infected, the meat is still fine. The strain stays in the lungs. Get that! So…I love how this swine flu is on the news so much that it actually starts install irrational fear in you. You have 100% more likely chance of dieing in a car crash but yup…I’m kinda still scared to get swine flu! lol bhahahahaa. Anywaysssss…

So the weekend in Antigonish was amazing! I sold out my first show at the Justamere Cafe and it was wicked! Thanks to everyone who came out to that show and for those of you who couldn’t get tickets, I’m back with Carmel Mikol on May.22nd at the StFX Art Gallery as part of the “Guess Who’s Driving Tour?”

So…what is the “Guess Who’s Driving Tour?” you ask yourself?! A frickin’ fun time! That’s what it is! Carmel Mikol and I are hittin’ the road together and eventually making our way back to Newfoundland where we had our first trip together and first experience with NFLD together for the ECMA’s! Carmel was driving…and let me tell you! It takes some patience people! I do not know how many times we got lost and she said she knew where she was going! lol bahahahahah. Carmel also likes to think it’s safe to drive 7 hours on 2 hours of sleep! I’m gonna go ahead and say that is unsafe! lol…I love Carmel though! She is sooooo wicked and we had so much fun together travelling around the ECMA’s so we agreed to do it again closer to summer. So! Here we are. She dropped me off outside my house the day we got back, after ferry delays, crazy storms that almost blew the vehicle off the road, duct taping Carmel’s eyelids because she refused to stop driving, finally convincing her to sleep a couple hours because it wasn’t safe to drive and we both had to work early the next day, and finding out that both of our bosses had let us off the hook just outside Halifax! I said, “Well good to know we can tour together, but next time, I’M DRIVING!” lol bahahahahah. “And now I’m going to sleep!” What a time…

Secondly…some wicked gals are on tour, a big boots and lipstick tour that is, and you should check them out! I’m playing with Lynn Jackson and Ambre McLean at Gus’s Pub on Sunday night and Just Us Cafe on Spring Garden on Monday Night! Gus’s Pub is a 10:00 show and Just Us is a 7:00-9:00 show. Hope to see ya out folks! These girls need to be heard “livvveee”!

So…folks…it was nice talking with ya and I hope the rest of your week and weekend is lovely! Don’t forget about Mother’s Day either! I know my Momma is one of the most influential, beautiful, supportive and amazing people in my life and she deserves ALOT back from putting up with me! (Especially in high school…ugggghhh lol) She is the thread that runs through my veins (and don’t you dare steal this line for your card! and if you do you gotta do one of these..-Kim Wempe- ahahahahah) …so make sure you take a moment to tell your Momma you love her and if you’ve lost her, take time to be grateful for the time you had with her and if you tell her you miss her, she’ll hear you…I swear…

And the months ahead…

Well hey there folks!

Alright…these next few months are going to be busy.  I’ll be planning in March, recording in April, and playing a ton of shows in May! In the beginning of June, Carmel Mikol and I will be touring to NFLD to meet up with Ian Foster! Then at the end of July and the beginning of August, I’ll be headed out to the West Coast to do some shows.  Like I said…March is planning month!

Back to May though! Starting May.1st, the dropcard (aka Digital EP) will be released! The actual card will only be available at my merch table but you’ll be able to download the new songs on itunes so no worries!  This dropcard will have a bunch of wicked stuff on it…3 new tracks, In the Dead of Winter video footage, live tracks, raw studio tracks, and a little something new every month! Whether it’s a new song we’re starting in the studio or a live show, we’ll surprise you. 

We decided on this dropcard vs. a traditional CD due to be a little more environmentally friendly. The dropcard contains 50 times less material than a traditional CD! The album will be released in October (date TBA!) so we needed something for you to take home from shows between now and then since my 2007 album ‘The Last Version’ is almost sold out! The dropcard is super easy to use so don’t worry about a thing!
